Learn how to attach a quilt strap to stop drafts and keep your sleeping quilt tucked around you all night for a warmer, more restful sleep.
Quick answer
Attach a quilt strap by threading it under your sleeping pad, snapping the quilt sides to the strap's snaps, then sliding the snaps along the shock cord to close any gaps and stop drafts.
Why use a quilt strap?
A quilt strap solves the common problem of cold drafts sneaking in when you roll over in your sleep. By cinching the quilt tight to your pad, it keeps the insulation tucked around you without adding the weight or restriction of a zippered sleeping bag. The trade-off is that you need to adjust the strap a bit to find your ideal tension—too tight and it feels confining, too loose and drafts return.
If your quilt uses older flat clips instead of snaps, make sure you get the correct strap version. The Replacement Solo Quilt Strap w/ Snaps works with current Solo and Summer Quilts, but for older Solo Quilts with Flat Clips you'll need the Strap w/ Flat Clips.
How to attach your quilt strap
- Thread the strap under your pad: Lay the strap flat under your sleeping pad so the shock cord runs across the pad's width and both ends are accessible on either side. Make sure the strap is centered near your torso, not at your feet. Common mistake: placing the strap too high or low, which leaves your shoulders or feet exposed.
- Snap the quilt to the strap: Take each side of your quilt and press the snap onto the corresponding snap on the strap. Work from one side to the other to keep the quilt centered over the pad. Check that all snaps are fully engaged before moving on—partial snaps can pop loose during the night.
- Slide the snaps to adjust tension: Slide the snaps along the shock cord to tighten or loosen the gap between the quilt and pad. Aim for a snug fit that seals the edges without pulling the quilt so tight that it lifts off your body. If you feel a draft at your side, slide the snap closer to the pad edge to close the gap. If the quilt feels restrictive, slide it outward slightly.
Product facts
- Replacement Solo Quilt Strap w/ Snaps: This quilt strap is included with our Solo Quilts and an optional add-on with our Summer Quilts. The snaps can slide along the shock cord to adjust the gap beneath you. You can fine-tune the strap to match your sleeping position and pad width, so the quilt stays sealed without feeling restrictive.
